E-Mobility and the Future of Transport

The Irbaris team have been advising on potential opportunities and threats created by e-mobility for more than 10 years and have been directly involved in the creation and development of an operational electric vehicle (EV) company from its earliest days, as well as acquisitions of EV technology companies.  We, therefore, have a unique understanding of the challenges and opportunities created by e-mobility and other alternative fuels and technologies.

This deep practical and consulting experience gives us a different perspective and unique insights.  In addition, over the past 5 years we have developed a detailed bottom-up model of the transport fleet and fuel usage enabling us to explore in detail the impact of changing economics, end-user behaviours and policy decisions on vehicle use and market developments.

While energy industry forecasts have been updated, our experience says that most still do not seem to reflect the full potential impact of EVs:

  • Most forecasters have increased their long-term EV outlook every year, whilst short-term projections have generally been overestimated

  • The projections are also distorted by the fact that EVs are expected to deliver more vehicle-miles than older combustion vehicles (i.e., through automation, financial incentives to cover more distance, maintaining older vehicles that are rarely driven, etc.)

We advise our clients on underlying technology trends, emerging business models and the implications for their business.  We advise on potential developments in key markets, changes in industry structures and profit pools, and opportunities for partnership and acquisition. We help clients develop market entry strategies and identify potential acquisition targets.
